href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/visit-naples\/\">visit to Naples<\/a> to visit the archaeological site of <strong>Paestum<\/strong>. A <strong>UNESCO World Heritage<\/strong> site, it is the largest group of preserved Greek temples outside Greece.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What makes Paestum even more remarkable is its <strong>state of preservation<\/strong>, which is particularly impressive. And the advantage of Paestum is that, unlike more famous archaeological sites such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/visit-pompei\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4107\">Pompeii<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/visit-herculanum\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3996\">Herculaneum<\/a>, it&#8217;s located a little further from Naples and therefore attracts fewer visitors.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"569\" data-id=\"52493\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20211031_094146-1200x569.webp\" alt=\"Paestum in the Naples region of Italy  \" class=\"wp-image-52493\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20211031_094146-1200x569.webp 1200w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20211031_094146-400x190.webp 400w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20211031_094146-scaled.webp 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s a site that deserves to be <strong>better known<\/strong>, we were so close to missing it that we went there, because we exchanged with travelers used to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/visit-naples-area\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"10300\">visiting Naples and its region<\/a>, who told us it was their favorite site in the area. Founded by the <strong>Greeks in the 7th century BC<\/strong>, this ancient city, formerly known as <strong>Poseidonia<\/strong>, was a flourishing cultural and commercial center.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paestum&#8217;s main attraction is its <strong>three imposing Greek temples<\/strong>, all remarkably well-preserved.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Temple_of_Hera\"><\/span><strong>Temple of Hera<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Temple of Hera<\/strong>, to the south of the site, is the oldest of the 3 temples, majestic and imposing, standing like a guardian of the past. It is also known as the &#8220;Basilica&#8221;. We explored the site for 1h30.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Paestum_Museum\"><\/span>Paestum Museum<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were surprised by the size of the archaeological site, and our daughter had no energy left to visit the museum adjoining the site.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site also boasts a <strong>well-stocked museum<\/strong>, with an impressive collection of artifacts discovered on site. Frescoes, sculptures and pottery tell stories of daily life, religion and art from this remote era.
