Nestled between mountains and fjords<\/strong>, Bergen is a city that instantly wins you over. You can wander through the colourful lanes of Bryggen<\/strong>, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or rise above the city on the Fl\u00f8ibanen funicular to the top of Mount Fl\u00f8yen.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Our thoughts on Bergen<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n

After Oslo and Stavanger, we weren't sure whether to stop here before continuing our journey through northern Norway. Curiosity led us to explore the country's second-largest city, which feels more like a small village. We were won over by its charming<\/strong> residential neighbourhoods<\/strong> and the funicular<\/strong> ride up to Mount Fl\u00f8yen.<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Despite its reputation as one of Norway's rainiest cities<\/strong>, we were lucky enough to have sunshine and clear blue skies during our visit. It makes all the difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Bear in mind, though, that it's a major port of call for cruise passengers<\/strong>. This certainly boosts local tourism, but if, like us, you arrive at the same time as a cruise ship, you'll have to share the harbour area and Bryggen<\/strong> with hundreds of other visitors… <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

How long should you stay in Bergen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Half a day is plenty of time to explore Bergen's very small city centre. We recommend staying for 2 days to explore the surrounding area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
