Please let us know in the comments if you have any other countries to add to our list: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sweden <em>(visited in May and August)<\/em><\/strong> is our <strong>favorite country<\/strong>. The driving is comfortable, and it&#8217;s one of the only countries in Europe where I (Floriane) have driven. Even in the middle of summer, we managed to find great spots in forests, around lakes, on the east coast, all to ourselves! <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another important point for vanlife is that Sweden applies a policy of<strong>&#8220;Allemansr\u00e4tten<\/strong>&#8220;, which translates as the <strong>right of access to nature<\/strong>, allowing everyone to enjoy nature freely. However, this right is subject to certain conditions. Avoid parking too close to dwellings, and always leave the premises as you found them.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also forbidden to park in <strong>national parks<\/strong> or on <strong>private roads<\/strong>, where the owner determines the traffic regulations. It&#8217;s worth noting that we were there in the middle of winter, so it may not be as easy to park everywhere in high season. Even though we found some nice bivouacs, we were a little disappointed by the crowds (even though we were contributing to them) in some areas, notably between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/a530bd13-98d6-487b-a00f-99f67b9149aa_82aa814a-a3c2-42ec-8e8b-91f265e5a140-jpg-webp.webp\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"53340\">Stavanger<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/que-faire-a-bergen\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"53527\">Bergen<\/a> and on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/visit-iles-lofoten\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"57085\">Lofotens Islands<\/a>, where we saw a lot of no overnight signs. Some areas, such as<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Visiter-lile-de-Senja-en-Norvege-notre-road-trip-en-famille-generated-pin-60510.jpeg\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"61134\">Senja Island<\/a> in the north, are somewhat spared.  <br\/><br\/>We strongly recommend a road trip in Norway to explore the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/fjords-bergen\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"53552\">fjords around Bergen<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/visit-geirangerfjord\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"54371\">Geiranger<\/a>, as well as the many magnificent hiking trails<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/preikestolen-norway-hike\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"52747\">(Preikestolen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/trolltunga-norvege-randonee\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"54368\">Trolltunga<\/a>&#8230;).<br\/><br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">+<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">&#8211;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">&#8211; Cleanliness of spots<br\/>&#8211; Numerous service areas, some of which are even equipped with cleaning machines.<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">&#8211; Roadside spotlights<br\/>&#8211; Small parking lots<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-10 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"904\" data-id=\"58570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PXL_20230618_082226594-1200x904.jpg\" alt=\"motorhome\" class=\"wp-image-58570\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PXL_20230618_082226594-1200x904.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PXL_20230618_082226594-400x301.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PXL_20230618_082226594-scaled.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-11 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"904\" data-id=\"57101\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PXL_20230618_192601060-1200x904.webp\" alt=\"camping car norvege\" class=\"wp-image-57101\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PXL_20230618_192601060-1200x904.webp 1200w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PXL_20230618_192601060-400x301.webp 400w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PXL_20230618_192601060-scaled.webp 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bulgaria and Romania<\/strong>: these two countries are ideal for motorhomes, with few restrictions. It&#8217;s worth noting, however, that the spots aren&#8217;t always very clean and there aren&#8217;t many places to do services. <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Denmark<\/strong>: We had no trouble finding campsites in the Danish countryside. For <a href=\"https:\/\/passion-copenhague.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/passion-copenhague.fr\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Copenhagen<\/a>, we had booked a campsite. The same goes for the Netherlands, and we also recommend staying at a campsite near<a href=\"\/www.passion-amsterdam.fr\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"\/www.passion-amsterdam.fr\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amsterdam<\/a>.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We didn&#8217;t spend enough time in <strong>Austria; we <\/strong>only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.passion-vienne.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.passion-vienne.fr\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explored Vienna<\/a>,<strong> Hungary, and Germany<\/strong> to give you an accurate account of our experience.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-12 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"568\" data-id=\"60474\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20220330_104937-1200x568.jpg\" alt=\"camping car roumanie\" class=\"wp-image-60474\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20220330_104937-1200x568.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20220330_104937-400x189.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20220330_104937-scaled.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">European countries less suited to life in a converted vehicle<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Italy<\/strong> <em>(visited in October and November)<\/em>: this is one of our favorite European countries, the historic sites are magnificent and the food is always very good. However, we found the driving sporty, especially around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/visit-naples\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"10299\">Naples<\/a>, and we were a little stressed about leaving our vehicle around certain towns.  <br\/><br\/>Another point is that we didn&#8217;t always sleep very well, and some evenings we were treated to loud music right next to our vehicle, even in less urbanized areas such as near the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/en\/visit-pompei\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4107\">archaeological site of Pompeii<\/a>.<br\/><br\/>We really recommend doing Italy by <strong>train<\/strong> or <strong>rental car<\/strong>, without your belongings inside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">+<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">&#8211;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">&#8211; the country is magnificent<br\/>&#8211; the food is excellent<br\/>&#8211; visit southern Italy in October and November to enjoy the peace and quiet of the area<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">&#8211; Driving, especially in southern Italy<br\/>&#8211; Insecurity, as you can read on Park4night there are thefts from vehicles.<br\/>&#8211; Noise on some bivouacs<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-13 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"569\" data-id=\"60343\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20211020_084158-1200x569.jpg\" alt=\"italy vanlife\" class=\"wp-image-60343\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20211020_084158-1200x569.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20211020_084158-400x190.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20211020_084158-scaled.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-14 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"568\" data-id=\"60348\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20211026_180220-1200x568.jpg\" alt=\"italy camping car\" class=\"wp-image-60348\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20211026_180220-1200x568.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20211026_180220-400x189.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.pourquoi-pas-nous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/20211026_180220-scaled.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Portugal, Slovenia<\/strong> and <strong>Croatia<\/strong>: wilderness bivouacs are forbidden, so if you stay in these countries for a long time, your budget may be considerably higher. We paid \u20ac50 for a night&#8217;s camping in Cascais, west of Lisbon.
