In fact, it’s become our preferred means of transport for exploring European capitals<\/strong>, especially since we’ve been traveling with our daughter. We avoid traffic jams, take our time, stop whenever we like. And above all, you’re completely immersed in the local atmosphere. Here’s our selection of 5 cities to discover by bike in Europe<\/strong>, with ideas for outings, practical advice, and our favorites on two wheels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Amsterdam, the cycling capital of the world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It’s impossible to talk about cities to discover by bike without starting with Amsterdam<\/strong>. Here, cycling isn’t just a means of transport, it’s an institution. There are more bicycles than inhabitants, and nearly 400 kilometers of bike paths crisscross the city. Everything has been designed with cyclists in mind, from dedicated traffic lights to giant bike parks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pedal along the canals, through neighborhoods such as Jordaan<\/strong>, Vondelpark<\/strong> and Oost<\/strong>. The Dutch countryside is just a few pedal strokes away. The Amsterdam – Ouderkerk aan de Amstel – Amsterdam<\/em> loop is ideal for families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Copenhagen, the other cyclist’s paradise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Danish capital is perhaps the most bike-friendly<\/strong> city in the world<\/strong>. With over 390 kilometers of bike paths, bridges like the Cykelslangen<\/em> and a deeply rooted cycling culture, Copenhagen is a model of bike-friendly urban planning. It’s a city we loved discovering on our Scandinavian road trip<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our favorite walks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We love N\u00f8rrebro<\/strong> and Superkilen Park<\/strong>, Frederiksberg<\/strong> for its peace and quiet, or Nyhavn<\/strong> early in the morning. For a longer outing, head for Amager Strandpark<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rent a bike in Copenhagen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Use Donkey Republic<\/a><\/strong> via app, or go through Copenhagen Bicycles<\/strong><\/strong>. Expect to pay \u20ac15-20 a day. Cargo bikes are also very common here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Strasbourg, France’s most bike-friendly city<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After 10 months of motorhoming in Southern and Western Europe<\/a>, we took advantage of the return trip to make a few stops in Eastern France. What a great idea! Strasbourg<\/strong> is a city perfectly suited to a bike tour. The city center, the quays, the river banks, the European quarter and even Kehl<\/strong> in Germany are all easily accessible by bike. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The loop through the quays of theIll<\/strong>, the Rhone-Rhine canal and the Parc de l’Orangerie<\/strong>. Special mention to the Rhine crossing by bike! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We brought our own bikes, which was perfect for riding as a family, without worrying about rentals or schedules. Strasbourg is very well equipped to welcome cyclists with their own bikes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Vienne \u00e0 v\u00e9lo : entre \u00e9l\u00e9gance imp\u00e9riale et douceur de vivre<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vienne<\/a> surprend par sa douceur de vivre et son c\u00f4t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s vert, parfait pour se d\u00e9couvrir \u00e0 v\u00e9lo. C\u2019est une ville \u00e9l\u00e9gante, mais sans pr\u00e9tention, o\u00f9 l\u2019on p\u00e9dale tranquillement entre histoire imp\u00e9riale et modernit\u00e9 bien pens\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On aime longer le Danube, fl\u00e2ner dans le Prater ou traverser les grands boulevards bord\u00e9s d\u2019arbres autour du Ring. Le centre historique se parcourt facilement, et les quartiers plus r\u00e9sidentiels comme Neubau ou Josefstadt offrent une belle ambiance locale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ljubljana<\/strong> is a peaceful, largely pedestrian capital, ideal for gentle exploration. The historic center, Tivoli Park<\/strong> and the Pot spominov<\/em> green trail are must-sees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
