Matthieu is <strong>from Angoul\u00eame<\/strong>, where his family still lives, and I studied for 2 years at the IUT in Angoul\u00eame. We regularly go there on weekends or vacations to meet our family and friends.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city of Angoul\u00eame is known for its comic book festival <strong>,<\/strong> which takes place every year in January. The city is also full of small treasures, its painted walls, its medieval center, the Charente&#8230; to explore all year long !<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We spent part of our summer there, after 10 months camping in Europe. We took the time to rediscover the city, and below we&#8217;ve listed our <strong>top 10 must-sees, as well as our itinerary for visiting Angoul\u00eame on foot in 1 day <\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also give you our <strong>secrets<\/strong> to visit Angoul\u00eame as an Angoumoisin. You can explore Angoul\u00eame absolutely all year round, especially to discover its beautiful <strong>painted walls<\/strong> and <strong>medieval center<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if it rains, you can take refuge in the <strong>International Comics Museum<\/strong>. You can also sample local specialities such as <strong>pineau<\/strong>, <strong>cognac<\/strong>,<strong> truffles<\/strong>, <strong>melon<\/strong> and <strong>Angoul\u00eame chocolate Marguerite<\/strong> (available from Duceau chocolatier)&#8230; Now is not the time to start a diet!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_do_in_Angouleme_our_10_must-haves\"><\/span>What to do in Angoul\u00eame ? our 10 must-haves :<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_%E2%97%8A_Painted_walls_go_on_a_treasure_hunt_%E2%97%8A\"><\/span>1 \u25ca Painted walls: go on a treasure hunt \u25ca  <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>A <strong>real open-air museum<\/strong>, free and very nice to do with the family! The various murals were created by the &#8220;Grand Prix of the Comic Book Festival&#8221; which takes place every year at the beginning of the year. The <strong>main frescoes<\/strong> are to be seen on the plateau, the upper part of Angouleme.<\/p>\n<p>Before going on a treasure hunt, we advise you to download the application <strong>Murs BD Angoul\u00eame<\/strong>, in order to realize the &#8220;short itinerary&#8221;, of about 2km, which will allow you to observe the <strong>main works<\/strong>, Lucky Luke and the Daltons, &#8220;Le Baron Noir&#8221;, &#8220;Gaston&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>We found the application super successful, even though we know Angoul\u00eame well, we easily oriented ourselves with the interactive map and learned more about the works. We also walked around at night to see the projected mural.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Our two favorites<\/strong>:<strong>&#8220;M\u00e9moire du XXe Ciel<\/strong>&#8221; of the place Saint Andr\u00e9 by Yslaire, opposite the wall you can observe the angel in height which is reflected on the wall. And of course the unavoidable<strong>&#8220;Fille des remparts<\/strong>&#8221; by Max Cabannes, a trompe l&#8217;oeil extremely well done. They were then rebuilt and enlarged in the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"is-style-excerpt wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the <strong>tree-lined walk<\/strong> along the ramparts offers <strong>beautiful panoramic views<\/strong> over the town and the Charente river. It was then modified in the 19th century by Paul Abadie (the architect of the Sacr\u00e9 Coeur, not just anyone!), then its facade was completely renovated in 2019. Its equally grand interior is open to the public free of charge.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right next to the cathedral, is the Saint Paul high school where the former president Fran\u00e7ois Mitterrand went to college! The works are presented chronologically, including some original plates. The museum takes around 2 hours to visit. We&#8217;ve been there several times, as Matthieu is a comics fan and the temporary exhibitions change regularly.<\/p>\n<p>For the youngest, the museum may lack a little interaction, to compensate for this pleasant <strong>reading<\/strong> corners have been installed. Indeed, it is sometimes necessary to raise the feet to avoid brambles or nettles, it is a will of the town hall to let the nature take again life.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also a bathing area, not regulated, especially near the lock, because the water is extremely clear.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It takes about 1 hour to <strong>walk<\/strong> around the island, starting from the<strong>lock<\/strong>, then through the <strong>bamboo forest<\/strong>, the old <strong>allotments<\/strong>and finally exploring the <strong>opposite shore<\/strong>.
