Looking for a place to stay during your stay on Senja Island ? We had the same questions when preparing our road trip to the island.
To make the most of your vacation and visit Senja’s must-sees, it’s important to find one or more strategically located accommodations.
To help you, we’ve put together some tips on where to stay in Senja, Norway, and we’ve shared our best hotel addresses and places to camp with your tent or van.
Our advice on accommodation on Senja Island :
As you can read in our article about visiting Senja Island in Norway:
- We recommend that you stay at least 2 days in Senja, ideally 3, to have a day to spare in case of capricious and rainy weather, which happens frequently even in summer.
- As you can see from our map, the most interesting area is in the north of the island, with the fjords and mountains. We recommend that you find accommodation here.
- On the island of Senja, as everywhere else, you’ll find hotels and apartments for rent, generally equipped with individual or shared kitchens.
- One last tip for saving money during your stay on Senja Island: if possible, opt for accommodation with a private or shared kitchen, so you can cook for yourself. Norway is not renowned for its gastronomy, and the cost of living is also higher than in our country, averaging €20-25 for a dish in a mid-range restaurant.

Good value for money (around €100 per night)
Hotel Mefjord Brygge, north of the panoramic road in the heart of the village, is ideally located between Ersfjord’s white sandy beach and the start of the hike to Mount Segla or Mount Hesten.
Some rooms offer beautiful views of the fjord and the mountains known as the Devil’s Teeth. The hotel offers rooms as well as convenient self-catering apartments. The village has a mini-market and a bakery.

Hotel with breakfast
Hamn i Senja is a beautiful, secluded address in the north-west, close to the port of Gryllerfjord (ferry to the Vesteralen). It’s close to the island’s main points of interest and the small village of Bøvær.
Breakfast is included in the price of the overnight stay. We recommend that you book a room with a sea or mountain view to get the most out of the place. The hotel offers additional services for a fee, such as kayak, jacuzzi and sauna rentals.

Where to sleep in a tent, van or camper van on Senja Island?
Norway is an ideal country for vanlife, as overnight parking is permitted almost everywhere, provided of course that you keep a safe distance from dwellings and respect the surroundings.
If you have your own vehicle, you’ll easily find bivouacs on the island of Senja. Please note, however, that as in the Lofoten Islands, the parking lots are not very large and the area to be visited is located in the same place, so we advise you to arrive early to secure a space. At the beginning of July, we still had a choice of bivouacs.
Here are the spots where we slept during our Senja road trip:
- Ersfjord beach, possibility of pitching your tent, the place is sublime, in vehicle to come early, because the carpark is small. And there’s a water point, beach shower and toilet. It’s almost a luxury spot!
- Mefjordvaer Park4night 41106 parking area with free services and a view of the Devil’s Teeth! There were just a lot of mosquitoes in early July.
