Diving into the museum – What you’ll discover

The Picasso Museum is housed in the magnificent Palacio de Buenavista, a historic building emblematic of the Andalusian Renaissance. This building alone is well worth a visit, as its refined architecture and history-laden atmosphere make for a truly memorable experience.

This museum tells the story of one of the most innovative artists of the XXᵉ century through the techniques he explored, from his beginnings to the most daring periods of his creation.

We knew him mainly for his cubist period, but the visit enabled us to discover many other facets of his work.

🎨 Diversity of artistic techniques

Over 200 works are on show, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings and engravings… All the forms of expression mastered by Picasso are represented. This allows us to appreciate how he moved from figurative art to cubism, from classicism to the deconstruction of forms.

📜 A fluid journey and a successful scenography

Unlike many museums, where you sometimes feel rushed, here the spaces are surprisingly airy and conducive to contemplation. The scenography has been designed to accompany the eye, highlighting each work in a logical and pleasant path.

🎧 The audioguide to understand everything

An audioguide in French is available. It enriches the visit with clear explanations of Picasso’s works, periods and artistic choices, making the tour accessible even if you’re not an art expert.

📊 The large timeline

At the end of the visit, an impressive timeline retraces the major stages in Picasso’s life. It’s a visual and educational way of understanding his different artistic periods, his influences and the evolution of his style.

Our tips for your visit

  • Book your tickets in advance: The museum is a very popular attraction in Malaga. If you buy your ticket online at a specific time, you’ll avoid long queues (although there is always a bit of a wait).

We advise you to book your tickets on GetYourGuide, as the prices are the same as on the official website, and you can change your booking up to the day before your visit. On the day, all you have to do is show the QR code in the application.
  • As far as possible, avoid peak times, especially in the middle of the day. A visit in the early morning or late afternoon allows you to enjoy a more serene atmosphere and appreciate the scenography more fully.
  • Photos are not permitted inside the museum. This rule is designed to preserve the works and maintain a calm, respectful atmosphere. It’s also why we weren’t able to share many of them, but it encourages you to enjoy your visit to the full, without distraction.
