Located on the south side of Como Lake and nearest city from Milan, Como is the best place to stay to visit Como Lake,
We recommend you to spend a day there because Como is different from the other cities around the lake. We enjoyed its bustle, its beautiful stores, its beautiful buildings, its harbor and its italian atmosphere at night.
We give you, below, all the information you need to prepare your future stay in Como (things to do ? where to eat, where to test an excellent ice cream? Where to sleep? Where to have a nice view on the lake?…) and our best places on our map.

What to do and see in Como (walks, visits…) map?
As in most of the villages around the lake, don’t miss its port with its many colorful houses and its beautiful historical center.
Visit port and old town by foot
Here is the itinerary we followed during our walk in the city of Como (about 2 kilometers round trip)
1- Start from the sumptuous villa Olmo located on the shores of the lake, possibility to visit the interior and its gardens.
2 – Then walk along the waterfront to Piazza Cavour (about 10 minutes walk). Take the opportunity to contemplate the boats, dreaming of being on board one of them and enjoying the beautiful views of the lake.
3- Then you can go to the imposing Saint Mary’s cathedral of Gothic style and then you can take the shopping street. Also take advantage of your visit to Como to taste the excellent and famous Italian ice creams!

Beautiful view on Como Lake
We also went up to the faro of Voltiano (lighthouse of Volta), entrance 2€, the panoramic view on the lake is splendid however you will reach it by a narrow road in lace.
We suggest you take the funicular to Brunate and then walk for about 30 minutes to reach the lighthouse.

Boat : best way to visit lake Como
Exploring Lake Como by boat is a must-do experience. On board your boat with or without a license, you will rediscover the lake and you can even swim in it.
To rent your boat, we recommend that you use the Samboat platform. It’s very simple, they have the most complete offer of boat rental and their website is very easy to use!
You enter your location“Como“, then your dates, then you can filter by type of boat (motor boats, barges, small boats …), with or without license, with or without skipper: in short you have the embarrassment of choice.

We recommend that you spend at least one night in Como to enjoy the lively city in the evening.
We recommend you, Albergo Frirenze : location to the town centre of Como, 10min walk to the train station and near the lake ferry terminal, staff were very helpful and efficient. Very good breakfast. Would stay again if in Como. (around 100€)
In short, a good address with excellent value for money in Como!
Where to eat (pizzas, ice creams…)?
- Pronobis: an address located in the historical center which does not look like much, once inside the magic happens, excellent products, excellent wines, all in a warm setting!
- Of course, if you read us regularly, you know that we took advantage of our visit to test the Italian ice creams. We loved the artisanal ice creams from the Guidi ice cream parlour in Piazza Cavour just next door. The tastes are original lemons basil… and the flavors are there. Let yourself be tempted without hesitation!
