Before we moved to the Ile d’Oléron, it was one of our favorite destinations for a few days’ vacation. So we’ve had the opportunity to try out a number of campsites and vacation homes during our various stays on the Ile d’Oléron.

We list below our favorite campsites on the Ile d’Oléron along with useful information (proximity to beaches, swimming pool, activities on offer, location…).

Our top 8 on our map

On the Ile d’Oléron, things to see and do are spread out all over the island. We therefore advise you to choose central accommodation, so you can get to the various points of interest easily and close to the ocean.

In our opinion, the best place to stay is on the coast, close to La Cotinière or Saint-Pierre, where you’ll have easy access to one of the great beaches of the wild coast, and you’ll be able to take advantage of the many night-time activities in high season.

If you really want to be at the center of Oléronaise life, we recommend the village of Saint-Pierre or Dolus-d’Oléron, where you can enjoy the many restaurants and markets while being only a few kilometers from the beaches.

A quick note before we start: obviously, we didn’t test all the campsites on the Ile d’Oléron. This selection has been made from among those we have tested and those that have been recommended to us. As we live on Oléron, we’ve put together a list of campsites that we think are ideally located for visiting the island. We pass a number of campsites every day.
