When planning a trip to Prague, one of the first questions that comes up is: how many days will it take to really visit the city? And the answer isn’t so obvious… because it all depends on what you like to do, the pace you want to adopt and the time of year.

Prague is a city we’ve been lucky enough to discover several times. We spent a romantic break here, then another with our family during our European tour. Each time, the charm quickly takes hold: colorful facades, cobbled streets, red streetcars, bridges over the Vltava and superb views of the castle.
So, here we share our tips for choosing the right length of time to suit your desires, each time with a quick overview of what you can do on site, depending on the time you have available.
Prague in 2 days
If you’ve only got 2 days to visit Prague, don’t worry: it’s short, but it’s enough to discover the must-sees. All you need to do is organize your days well, and be prepared to leave out some of the longer visits.
The good news is that Prague is a human-sized capital and the center is easy to walk around, so you can see a lot in a short time.
- Day 1: Start at Prague Castle, enjoy the views and St. Vitus Cathedral, + Changing of the Guard at 12 noon, then take a lunch break at Kuchyň, a very good address near the castle for tasting Czech cuisine with a beautiful view. Then head back down to Malá Strana, the island of Kampa and the famous Charles Bridge, before continuing on to the Clementinum, Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock. End the day with a sunset cruise on the Vltava.
- Day 2: Head for the Jewish Quarter, then on to the Powder Tower and Nové Město. For lunch, we recommend MATOKA, handy for a quick bite of very good shawarma before continuing on to Wenceslas Square, Lucerna Passage, the National Museum and the works of David Černý. At the end of the day, climb up to Petřín Hill. For a drink with a view, Nebozízek is a great option before heading back down.
➡️ To optimize your 48 hours on site, we’ve prepared a complete itinerary for visiting Prague in 2 days on Passion Prague.
🏨 For a short stay, it’s best to sleep in a central district like Malá Strana, Staré Město or Nové Město.

Prague in 3 days
In our opinion, 3 days in Prague is the perfect length of time for a first discovery. It was the length of our first stay as a couple.
You’ll have time to see the most famous monuments, but also take time to enjoy the neighborhoods, viewpoints and a few good addresses.
Day 1: Start with Prague Castle, then lunch at Kuchyň, right next door, for a real gourmet break before heading back down to Malá Strana. In the afternoon, discover Kampa Island, Charles Bridge, the Clementinum and the Old Town, before finishing on a cruise on the Vltava.
Day 2: Explore the Jewish Quarter, Powder Tower, Wenceslas Square and the works of David Černý. At the end of the day, get some height at the Petřín Tower. For a break with a view, the rooftop, Nebozízek is a good place to stop for a drink.
Day 3: Head for the quieter, less touristy Vyšehrad Castle. For lunch, U Kroka is a very good address for Czech cuisine. In the afternoon, continue to the Maison dansante, Vinohrady Castle and the Žižkov district, before taking a coffee break at Cafefin Coffee, recommended for its coffees and delicious cakes. Finish the day at Letná, with its superb views over Prague and its beer garden.

Prague in 4 or 5 days
With 4 or 5 days in Prague, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the surrounding area. It’s a great option for families, or simply to slow down the pace, add a few gourmet breaks and discover more local neighborhoods.
For a longer stay, you can repeat the highlights of the first three days, then add an excursion and more good addresses. For a quick lunch in the Old Town, MATOKA works very well. In Malá Strana, Bistro Monk is a good option for brunch or a quick bite to eat before getting back to sightseeing.
- Days 1, 2 and 5 are the perfect time to discover Prague at your own pace. Stroll through must-see neighborhoods such as Prague Castle, Malá Strana andthe Old Town. Alternate cultural visits and sightseeing with breaks in local markets, typical cafés or less-frequented districts, far from the tourist hustle and bustle.
- Days 3 and 4, often with no arrival or departure constraints, are perfect for getting out of the center and exploring the surrounding area. Take the opportunity to spend the day in Plzeň and visit the Pilsner Urquell brewery (about 1h30 from Prague), with an optional detour to Karlštejn Castle.

Our tips for choosing the right duration
For a first trip, 3 days is really ideal. This gives you enough time to discover the must-sees, do some more leisurely sightseeing and enjoy the atmosphere of the city.
If you’re only going away for a weekend, 2 days is enough, provided you set your priorities right. On the other hand, if you like to take your time, or if you’re traveling with children, 4 days or more are particularly enjoyable.
The choice of accommodation also plays an important role. Sleeping in or near the city center means you can avoid long commutes and make the most of each day.
