What to do in Lecco on Lake Como: tips and practical information for organizing your visit

What to see and do in Lecco

Practical information

Everything you need to know to plan your visit.

Where is Lecco?

On the shores of Lake Como, at its southeastern end, in Lombardy.

  • Lakeside walk + ice cream
  • Piani d’Erna cable car + viewpoint
  • Basilica of Saint Nicholas

1. Lakeside stroll: Lungolago di Lecco

As in all lakeside villages, taking a stroll along the lakeside promenade is the main attraction.

We took the opportunity to admire the beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains while enjoying a delicious gelato at Gelateria Toldo. Yes, another one!

2. Piani d’Erna cable car

This is the second must-do activity of your stay, ideal for children.

In winter, the resort of Piani di Bobbio-Valtorta offers almost 35 km of pistes, perfect for all levels of skier. The departure point of the cable car is just a ten-minute drive from Lecco, making access really easy.

But the good news is that the resort remains open all year round. In the off-season, we recommend taking the cable car just for the ride up.

Practicalities:

  • Parking is available next door for €3 a day,
  • Bus line 5 from Lecco
  • Cable car ticket costs €15 per adult round trip, to be purchased directly on site (free for children under 3).

We took the cable car up to an altitude of 1,375 meters, and once at the top, the view of Lecco, the lake and the mountains is spectacular. Then you can continue exploring the area by going hiking.

A number of well-marked trails start from the Marchett hut right next to the cableway, as does the Pizzo d’Erna via ferrata.

3. Explore Lecco’s historic center

Of course, another must-do in Lecco is a leisurely stroll through its narrow streets, churches and little squares. Don’t miss the Basilica of Saint Nicholas and its bell tower, and the Palazzo delle Paure (located next to the tourist office). It houses a museum of modern art and temporary exhibitions.

4. Lecco market

The market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays, where you’ll find just about everything from good local produce (fruit and vegetables, cheeses) to stalls selling clothes and homeware. Just to enjoy the good atmosphere, it’s a trip to plan!

5. Paragliding

Here’s an idea for an original activity: fly over Lake Como in a tandem paraglider from Lecco to discover the Alpine landscape as you’ve never seen it before. You’ll have an exclusive view of Lake Como and the Alps in the background.

After a short briefing with a certified instructor, you take off gently from high above the city for a scenic flight lasting around 15 to 20 minutes.

To reach the meeting point in Lecco, simply take the bus (approx. 30-minute drive) or come by car via the SS36, then follow the directions provided by the organizer to the take-off area high above the town.

Starting at €100, suitable for beginners—a flight over Lake Como from Lecco.
