Hiking in Norway’s Lofoten Islands is truly incredible, but the best-known of them are very crowded. So we thought we’d share with you a hike on the archipelago that’s off the beaten tourist track, accessible to all and offering a sublime panorama on arrival.
This is what we found with the hike to Mount Offersoykammen, which combines all these criteria. Which route to take? Where to park? Is it possible to hike with children? We’ll answer all your questions.

Route and topo
Mount Offersøykammen is located on the island of Vestvågøy in the heart of the Lofoten archipelago. If you’re staying for 1 week, we recommend you include it in your itinerary.

- Duration: 1h30
- Hike start: gps point here Offersøykammen Trail Head

Description of the hiking trail
The distance is very short, but like many Norwegian hikes, the trail climbs straight up to the summit. It’s tough, but it’s fast!
The trail begins with a fairly steep climb over rocks and low vegetation. It then levels out into a more moderate, open climb before reaching the summit.
Once at the top, the panorama of the surrounding islands and turquoise waters is sublime.
A family outing?
For this hike, as the distance is very short, we chose to take it in turns. One during mealtime and the other during our daughter’s nap.
Our friends went up with their 4-year-old son, who walked most of the way. Just be careful on the rocky section.

Practical information: parking and accommodation
Car and camper parking
Two parking lots are located next to the start of the hike:
- Skera rest area Here you’ll find a small information center with ideas for things to do, as well as picnic tables.
- There is a parking lot at Skreda Rorbusuiter

Why include this hike in your itinerary? our opinion
There are many hiking trails on the archipelago, so it’s not easy to find your way around and choose the right one. We were immediately won over by the panoramic views in the photos and the short distance we had to cover.
The hike is located on one of the archipelago’s least touristy islands, so we found that i There were really few people on the trail and at the summit compared with Reinebrigen next to Reine or Mount Ryten.
Along with the Preikestolen, this is one of our favorite hikes in Norway and one of our favorite spots on the Lofoten Islands.
