Where to sleep in Puglia, Italy? Our favorite and most unusual addresses + all our tips

Where to sleep in Puglia? Agriturismo Trulli Grotta Di Figazzano - Martina Franca - Ostuni

Are you looking for a place to stay during your stay in Puglia ? We asked ourselves the same question when planning our trip. To make the most of your vacation and visit the region’s must-sees, it’s important to find the right accommodation.

To help you, we’ve put together some tips on where to stay in Puglia, Italy, and shared our best hotel addresses and ideas for unusual accommodation.

Where to sleep in Puglia? all our tips and maps

To make the most of Puglia’s picturesque villages, sublime beaches and activities, we recommend to choose several drop-off points. Finally, there are long distances between the various points of interest.

Puglia is divided into several areas to visit, depending on how long you plan to stay. In this article, we’ll give you all the keys to booking the best accommodation in Puglia.

You can choose 2 hotels during your stay and then explore the region by car. We’ve chosen 4 accommodations, as we’d spotted several that we really wanted to try out for you (the perfect excuse!).

  • If you stay 3 or 4 nights, we advise you to choose 1 or 2 places to sleep, for example waterside accommodation in the town of Monopoli or in the charming village of Polignano a Mare, and a hotel in the Itria valley to explore the various villages and admire the famous Trulli!
  • We stayed for 7 days, and you can find our detailed itinerary in this article. So we chose 4 locations: Matera, Alberobello (Itria Valley), Monopoli and Lecce in the Salento region. We were very happy with our choice.

Just to clarify, after reading numerous blogs and feedback from travellers, as we like to visit unusual places, we have integrated thehe incredible town of Matera, which is often forgotten because it’s not located in the Apulia region, is the capital of the province of Basilicata. And yet, only an hour fromBari, we guarantee you won’t regret your visit.

If, like us, you only have a few days in Puglia, our advice is to choose the incredible town of Matera over the lesser-known Bari.

In any case, you can choose from a wide range of accommodation options in Puglia: hotels, apartments, vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, B&Bs…

There are plenty to choose from, but we still advise you to book well in advance, especially in high season, on Booking.com for example! Now it’s time for our selection!

Hotel by the sea in Puglia

In northern Puglia, don’t miss the two pretty coastal towns of Polignano a Mare, a magnificent village perched on the sea, and Monopoli, with its pretty white houses and adorable little port. Good news, these two towns are located only 30 minutes from Bari.

We recommend staying in the livelier Monopoli, in the center of town, so you can enjoy the city to the full, day and night.

Our favorite ♥

Palazzo Indelli is a beautiful establishment right in the center of Monopoli, located in a pretty square with restaurants nearby, and just 2 steps from the seafront, so you can visit the whole town on foot. We slept very well, the bedding is comfortable and the rooms are impeccably clean.

Unusual accommodation in Matera

Matera is an extraordinary city, unique in the world, and a must-see in our opinion. The layout and history are very different from any other city we’ve visited. It is also the location for the James Bond film “Mourir peut attendre” (2021).

Unusual accommodation

Staying inside a sassi, an ancient cave that has been completely renovated, is a unique experience!

Then we have no hesitation in recommending Il belvedere Matera, the value for money is unbeatable in the city, located in the heart of the Caveoso sasso, you can do everything on foot .

We fell in love with this hotel. It is ideally located. The bedroom is completely atypical, as it’s dug into the rock– a real troglodyte dwelling. And the big plus is the impressive view from the terrace where breakfast is served. In short, we had an excellent stay.

Accommodation in Lecce in the Salento region

The Salento region is located in the south of Puglia, and its main attractions are :

  • The magnificent town of Lecce, with its elaborate architecture, has earned it the nickname of “Baroque Florence“, and that’s no mean feat!
  • And the other point of interest is the beautiful beaches and rock formations that lie close to the town, yet another reason to go there!
In the heart of the historic center

Vittoria Luxury House is a beautiful hotel so well renovated, with a big favorite for the huge bathroom. The welcome was top-notch and we got lots of good advice on visiting Lecce. It’s right in the historic center of Lecce, from €95.

Sleep in a trulli to discover the Itria Valley

There are several villages to visit in the Itria Valley, including Alberobello, Locorotondo and Martina Franca, where you can get a close-up view of the famous Trulli. These small, primitive stone dwellings with conical roofs.

We wanted to sleep in a masseria (the equivalent of our bed and breakfast) to explore the countryside and and sleep in a quiet place in the middle of nature.

With swimming pool

➡We stayed at the Masseria San Francesco, the place is just sublime. It’s an old farmhouse made up of trulli, refurbished in the midst of olive groves, with a swimming pool – a change of scenery guaranteed!

We also recommend theexcellent restaurant where everything is cooked with local produce. Its location is ideal, just 5 minutes from the coast and 20 minutes from Monopoli, Polignano a Mare and Alberobello. With room prices starting from €200, this is the ideal accommodation for celebrating a special occasion. In short, we recommend +++.

Hotel for indulgence

As always on our travels, we spend a lot of time looking for beautiful, well-located and ideally-priced accommodation. Unfortunately, we can’t test them all.

Here are two sublime addresses we spotted in Masseria, the equivalent of our bed & breakfasts. Prices are higher than the above accommodations, making them ideal places to celebrate anniversaries, honeymoons and other special occasions!

These old farmhouses have been magnificently restored, combining authenticity with all modern comforts, often in an incredible natural setting amidst olive groves and vineyards.

1- Masseria Cervarolo in Martina Franca – Ostuni

The sublime Masseria Cervarolo is an ancient farmhouse of the XVI century, located in the countryside, only 6km from Ostuni. The hotel is made up of traditional Trulli, whitewashed houses with conical roofs, converted into comfortable rooms with exposed stonework. The 5-year restoration project preserved the original building.

It’s an incredible place with a beautiful large pool, with plenty of loungers, ideal for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The friendly staff will help you organize your stay, so you can go there with your eyes closed.

➡️ From 240€ – Swimming pool – free parking – breakfast – restaurant with local produce

2- Masseria Montenapoleone – Monopoli – Ostuni

The beautiful Masseria Montenapoleone is nestled in a beautifully renovated building, the whole is very charming with attention to detail and a beautiful pool. Its location, just 10 minutes from the sea, between Monopoli, Alberobello and Ostuni, is ideal for exploring the surrounding area.

The place is enchanting, in the middle of olive trees, vineyards and cactus, with magnificent sunsets. Many of the products served on the plate are grown directly on the property.

➡️A from 350€ – Swimming pool – rooms – free parking – breakfast – restaurant with local and garden produce, a real treat.
