Camping in Stockholm: discover our top 3

Wilderness camping in Sweden

Many campsites are located close to Stockholm. We spent a long time looking for a peaceful place to sleep around Stockholm.

Having visited a number of European capitals in a converted vehicle, we know how important it is to choose the right campsite for a peaceful night’s sleep, as we wanted to make the most of our stay in the Swedish capital.

Here are the 3 most interesting campsites and motorhome parks for your stay in Stockholm, along with useful information (access to Stockholm, services and activities on offer…).

Map of our 3 best campsites in Stockholm

Many campsites are located around the Swedish capital. From our experience of camping around big cities, we know that these are generally noisy, as they are often close to major roads, and that the infrastructure is often dilapidated.

We generally don’t even use the sanitary facilities, preferring to use the shower in our motorhome, as we did on our trips to Milan, Valencia in Spain and Naples

Even though Sweden’s infrastructure is better than France’s, Stockholm is Sweden’s most visited city. Campsites are organized to accommodate large numbers of people, with small pitches and few green spaces.

In short, don’t expect to find beautiful campsites in the countryside around Stockholm. For us, peace and quiet were the number 1 criteria.

Find our guide to exploring Sweden by motorhome or van here.

1. Great home-away-from-home in a quiet residential area

We stayed here for 4 nights when we went to Stockholm with our camper van. It’s a peaceful, wooded location, about 30 minutes from the center of Stockholm. The metro is a 15-minute walk away, with a nice walk through a small park (with a great playground) and a small supermarket at the foot of the station. Very practical for refueling after visiting the Swedish capital, its museums and archipelago.

It’s an ideal choice for those looking for a quiet, economical location. The owners speak very good English and are very friendly.

1 pitch only, so we advise you to book online on the campcation website, in a quiet, secure residential area. The price includes electricity and water, as well as access to the owners’ beautiful garden. For converted vehicles only, as there are no sanitary facilities on site. About €20 per night. In short, we recommend +++.

2. Bredang campsite with bathing beach in the lake

We had hesitated with this campsite located next to the metro (10-minute walk), in wooded surroundings with a small lake nearby. According to the reviews, the staff are friendly and will give you lots of advice.

Sanitary facilities are a little outdated (as is often the case) and in short supply in high season. This is often the problem at campsites near major European capitals.

This is a good option for those looking for a campsite in the immediate vicinity of Stockholm.

Camper, van, cabin and tent pitches bookable by telephone.

3. Klubbensborg campsite in beautiful natural surroundings

A final option we’d spotted if the previous two were fully booked. This campsite, located right next to our number 2 address, looks just as good with similar facilities.

Located just 30 minutes from central Stockholm (10 minutes by metro, 20 minutes by subway). Facilities are simple but functional (again), and rates are affordable.

Camper, van, room and tent pitches, reservation by telephone essential in high season.
