Visit Capri in 1 day, on foot or by boat: our must-sees to make sure you don’t miss a thing of this dream island!

While in Naples, don’t miss the island of Capri. We understood once we were there why the island of Capri was so famous, because it is really very very beautiful. We were worried that it might be a little too bling bling, as the island is renowned for welcoming a clientele of high-end travelers.

Finally, as soon as we arrived by boat, we were seduced by the beauty of the landscape, the huge rocks, the beautiful cliffs, the magnificent villas and the island is surrounded by transparent water. Off the beaten path, you will quickly find yourself in the middle of nature and you will have beautiful views all to yourself, I promise!

We share with you, below, how to get to Capri and our itinerary for visiting this small island, 10 kilometers long, in 1 day. We have also grouped all our good addresses on our map at the end of the article.

How to get to Capri from Naples

➡️Byferry: you can buy your tickets directly at the port Molo Beverello in Naples. Two companies offer the NLG and Caremar spans, many boats leave every day. The price of the ticket varies from 30€ to 50€, and the duration of the crossing varies from 45 minutes with the NLG company to about an hour and a half with the Caremar company.

➡️You can book your tickets for a day with transportation and cruise around Capri included.

➡️You can also opt to rent a boat with or without a license, directly from Naples.

How to get from Sorrento to Capri?

➡️Byferry: the NLG company offers the crossing from April to October, lasting about 25 minutes.

When to go to Capri?

You can visit Capri almost all year round. However, there are some particularly good times to go there so that you can make the most of the activities on offer.

The best months to visit the island are between April and June or between September and October, as the temperatures are pleasant and the crowds are smaller, allowing for more privacy. Summer is also a good time of year. From November to March, it can rain frequently during this period!

Is Capri worth it?

Alor, dream island, myth or reality? In the end, we were amazed by the sheer number of things to see and do in Capri, so we’d advise you to leave early in the morning (sorry, you’ll need an alarm clock) to have enough time to do it all and get the most out of your stay. We loved our day exploring Capri.

And rest assured, there are not only yachts (some with helicopters on them) at the marina and high-end boutiques. This island has much more to offer!

What to do in Capri in one day?

Below we detail the itinerary we followed during our day in Capri. In order not to miss anything we advise you to arrive early and then go on a boat cruise and finish by visiting the two villages to enjoy beautiful views. In short, a great day of perception, you will be amazed!

The port of Marina Grande

It is the only port on the island and is the gateway to the island of Capri. You can admire the huge yachts, we had never seen so many and walk from the pier.

We advise you to book your boat cruise in advance or to book it as soon as you arrive at the port of Capri, you will see the different tour operators lined up at the port.

To reach the heights of Capri

This rocky island is home to two small towns, Capri and Anacapri. You can visit both places in the afternoon.

Capri

From the marina you can take the bus at the port for 2€ or walk up the steps for about 20 minutes to reach Capri. The bus will drop you off directly at Piazza Umberto I (La Piazzetta), the center of Capri.

We recommend that you take a walk through the small historical center and lose yourself in the narrow flowered streets, the beautiful green gardens and small squares. Don’t miss the Augusto Garden, always with beautiful breathtaking views.

You can also reach the belvedere Tragara to contemplate the famous Faraglioni from the ground, the view is incredible

Anacapri

You can again take a bus from Piazza Umberto in Capri, this second village that we found more authentic, will offer you especially beautiful views.

Mount Solaro

The Monte Solaro rises to an altitude of about 600 meters and is the panoramic viewpoint of the island. We did not go there for lack of time, the view on the bay of Naples must be splendid at its top. You can reach it by a chairlift from Anacapri.

Take a boat to go around the island

What to see?

Exploring the area around Capri by boat is a must-do experience. The water is beautiful and completely transparent, we have rarely seen such pure water, you can swim in the small creeks.

  • The Faraglioni the 3 famous rocks that rise above the water, shaped by the Tyrrhenian Sea during millions of years, offering a unique landscape! To note, that in this place, obviously there were really many worlds
  • The blue cave is the emblematic place, there is a very small passage to enter the spectacular marine cave, once inside the color of the water is incredible. Beware there is a lot of waiting in high season and access is complicated, even impossible some days. The surroundings are just as beautiful!

Book a cruise

➡️Onsite: you can book a cruise, arriving at the port of Marina Grande. which usually lasts 1 to 2 hours for a cost of more or less 30€.

➡️Inadvance without the stop at the blue cave: we advise you to book your tickets online, this cruise of about 2 hours will allow you to tour the island. Of course you will have beautiful views of the famous Faraglioni as well as a swim stop away from the crowd in a transparent water. Note that the blue cave is not included in this tour, as it is unfortunately a victim of its success.

➡️Inadvance with the blue cave stop: If you absolutely want to do the blue cave, you can book your tickets for this cruise, in high season you will have to be patient.

Book a private boat

You can also choose to rent a boat. On board your boat, with or without a license, you will explore the most emblematic places and you will even be able to swim.

To rent your boat, we recommend that you use the Samboat platform. It’s very simple, they have the most complete offer of boat rental and their website is very easy to use!

You enter your location“Capri” you can also start from Naples or Sorrento, then your dates, then you can filter by type of boat (motor boats, barges, small boats …), with or without a license, with or without a skipper: in short, you have the choice.

Where to swim?

A marina grande, just to the west of the port, is the island’s largest beach, and let’s be honest, in high season there can’t be much room left for a towel. We recommend that you take a swim during your boat trip away from the crowds.

Where to eat?

Prices are quite high on the island, even if you want to stop for a coffee check the prices. Prices are more affordable in Anacapri.

  • Aumm Aumm Ristorante Pizzeria is an excellent value for money, with excellent pizza with fine dough, in Anacapri
  • Buonocore Gelateria Pasticceria Gastronomia e Tavola Calda, for very good Italian ice cream, in Capri
pizza with green leaves on white ceramic plate

Where to sleep?

If you have the time, we advise you to stay at least 1 night on the island of Capri, you will be able to fully enjoy the island in the evening once the tourist boats have left. It’s worth noting that prices on Capri, as on all the islands, are higher than average.

  • Excellent value for money: Capri Dreaming, in Anacapri, the comfortable apartment is well located, quiet and only a few minutes from the shopping streets. (about 90 euros with breakfast, hard to find better)
  • Nice view: CapriOnda another good value for money in Capri this time, with a nice view over the Bay of Naples (115 euros).
  • With swimming pool : Casa Morgano: a great value for money in the heart of Capri, with a beautiful infinity pool (approx. 200 euros with breakfast).
